Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Saar studied design at the University of California at Los Angeles B.A., 1949 and education and printmaking at California State. Her mother, who worked as a seamstress, often used recycled materials to create new clothing for her family, and Saar and her siblings would collect items found in the backyard of her grandmother’s home.
